The reason for the Font Resource Book is to become familiar with multiple typefaces. An
additional challenge is to insert an essay that is relevant to an overall concept throughout the book. The use of an essay allows us to explore and work with hierarchy, balance and form unity with the essay and the specimens.
This particular book is combining an essay with the type specimen. The essay, by Lorraine Wild, is an interview with the founders of Emigre magazine explaining their experimental process with typography throughout the years. With each starting section, it will have a different layout for the essay, which will be the model for that type family. As the book goes on the layout will become simple and cleaner to read, expressing the experimental changes Emigre went through to be successful.
